New Teachers Join Staff
Many new faces can be seen around the school this year, as we have gained numerous new teachers and replaced assistant principal Mr. Ziegenfuss. In addition, we have several teachers who joined the staff in the middle of last year, including Miss Hoernle and Mrs. Edwards.
Edwards replaced Mr. Page in March, and now teaches Algebra 1, Trigonometry, and Geometry. Edwards became a teacher because she loves math and wanted to help others learn and understand it better. She received her first degree, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/ Computer Information Systems, from Clarion University. She earned her second degree, which is a Mathematics and Secondary Education degree from Moravian College. Edwards worked as a substitute teacher for eight years at Bethlehem Area High School, while she was earning her degree.
Teaching is not the only thing that keeps her busy; she is married with two children, a son and a daughter. Edwards' husband is a hot air balloon pilot and she enjoys going hot air ballooning with him in her free time.
Hoernle is another mid-year arrival who began her first teaching job, replacing Mrs. Rios last December. She has her Chemistry Education degree from King's College and her about the available position from a teacher friend at Zephyr. She teaches Academic and Applied Chemistry 1. In her free time, she sings in choir, runs obstacle races with Miss Sickler, and goes on adventures with her triplet brothers. Hoernle is not married, but has a labradoodle named Riley.
As the school year began, Mrs. Mayrosh joined our staff as the new librarian, taking over for Miss DeSieno. Mayrosh arrived from Easton Area High School, where she taught english for eight years. She also spent time at Northampton Community College as an adjunct professor and library assistant. Mayrosh has her Bachelor of Art degree in Sociology and Communications Rhetoric from Pitt, English and Secondary Education certificates from Muhlenberg College, and Master of Education from Wilkes University. She is currentyl working on her Master of Library Sciences from Clarion University, which she was encouraged to get by the EAHS librarians. This year students can expect the library to be more of a learning environment.
Aside from school, Mayrosh has many hobbies to keep her busy. She is married with two daughters, a four year old and a three month old, and a dog. Mayrosh loves to travel, and her love of reading developed from waiting for buses and planes.
The consumer science department also gained a new teacher in Mrs. Burian, who heard about the job through her coaching position with the Marching Zephyr Band (MZB) color guard. Burian came from the Community Service Foundation (CSF) & Buxmont in Bethlehem, where she taught digital art and technology, life skills, and fine art. She has her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Mansfield University and her teaching certificate from the State of Pennsylvania in Art and Family and Consumer Sciences.
She is married and has four cats; she and her husband also foster cats and kittens for The Sanctuary at Haafsville. In her free time, she bakes, makes pottery, travels, and coaches the MZB color guard.
Whitehall is thrilled to get to know these new faculty members and wishes them the best of luck with their futures.
