Indoor Teams Compete

On December 3, 2014, members of winter color guard and percussion ensemble were given exciting news. This year both teams would be able to compete with the Tournament Indoor Association circuit for the first time in years.

"I was super excited [when I found out] because [competing] gives us a chance to show of what we are capable of to different schools," compared color guard member Cassie Bonilla.

The color guard and percussion ensemble each consist of two different teams-- a competitive team and a non-competitive team. A student who is a member of the competitive team is also a member of the non-competitive team. Students who were interested in being a part of the competitive team were required to audition for the group. It has been almost five years since the groups have been competition-ready. The last time the color guard competed was 2010 and the percussion ensemble last competed in 2011.

"Over the last few years, the goal has been to get more students involved and increased participation, while also building up the skills of the members so that we would one day be ready and able to compete again," says band director Mr. Tanzos.

Both groups are thrilled to have the ability to compete again in 2015. Since the last competition team, winter color guard has increased its membership by 460% and percussion ensemble membership has grown by 290%.

As in the past, these teams were scheduled to perform at their indoor show on February 21, but the show was canceled due to inclement weather. Despite this, the color guard and percussion ensemble still held a performance for their friends and family.

The indoor teams will perform again at the small ensembles concert on April 29th in the auditorium. In addition to the small ensembles concert, the competition teams will be traveling to participate in Parkland's indoor show on March 21 and Salisbury's indoor show on April 18.

Wish the color guard and percussion ensemble luck in their future performances!
